Rebecca graduated from NC State with a Master’s in Graphic Design 2009.
Before attending graduate school she worked at a boutique design firm
followed by an advertising agency before working at Hallmark Cards Inc.
for seven years. At Hallmark she had various roles that primarily involved
managing product development and designers in merchandising, marketing,
and in-house communications. She also taught as an adjunct in Typography
at her alma mater, The University of Kansas, where she obtained her BFA
degree with an emphasis in Visual Communications in 1999. At NC State
she was a teaching assistant for the first-year design studios in the College
of Design. Currently, Rebecca serves on the board for AIGA Detroit as
Education Director and teaches a variety of design courses at Michigan
State University in Lansing, Michigan.
Outside of teaching, Rebecca is sole proprietor of SOWN Designs,
a small business involving designer pillows made out of vintage feedbags.
Rebecca’s work through SOWN Designs has been recognized on several
design blogs and is featured in 1000 Ideas for Creative Reuse published
by Quarry Books.
